From October 2020, I’m undertaking a PhD with the University of Roehampton and Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Emerging from and grounded in my collaborative practice with Rohanne Udall, this project will study the relationships between dance artists and institutions, particularly where an ‘independent’ artist takes on a curatorial role. We use the term ‘hosting’ to think about the practical, ethical and aesthetic complexities of these situations.

Each month I’m putting together some materials to share what I have been working on. The current plan is that these will be transcripts of letters I am sending to my supervisors, collaborators and friends, that reflect on current practice and preoccupations. But that might change.

My PhD research is supported through public funds – please get in touch if you’d like to speak about any of these ideas more, or if you think I could support your work.

With a smile,
